We might get Lens on the Desktop version of Chrome

Google Lens has been a useful tool ever since Google first introduced it back in 2017. This powerful AI camera taps into the Google Assistant and scans what it’s pointed at. It’s able to give you results on what it scans, translations, and other useful information. Google has gone so far as to implement it into different services like Search and its camera app. It’s a great tool, and it’s getting better every day. While it’s a useful tool to use on the go, it looks like Google wants to add the technology into the desktop version of Chrome. While using search, a user saw the Lens icon right next to the microphone icon. Clicking on the Lens icon would open up a popup where you can drag and drop photos to search. If you don’t want to drag and drop, you can also simply upload a photo. When you add a photo to the field, Google will use its AI to analyze it and give you some results. The results will be presented just like any other results in Google Image. You’ll get the knowledge panel on the right with similar photos right under it. From that point, you can interact with the images however you see fit.

This isn’t available just yet

If you think that this feature is interesting, you will need to wait for it to drop. Right now, it seems that the company is testing it with a limited rollout, so don’t be surprised if you don’t see it just yet. Companies usually test new features and changes with a limited number of people before making them available to the masses. Google might make a formal announcement when this feature goes prime time.

In Other Google News: Gmail is getting a redesign

Gmail for the web has had some design changes over the years, and the company just announced a new one coming soon. The new redesign will make some of the UI elements rounder. More importantly, it will display all of your conversations as small bubbles rather than have them sit under your inboxes. You will be able to try this out on February 8th.
