Android keeps data securely via the app permissions that you grant. Newer versions of Android brought the ability to allow or deny an app the permission to use features such as camera, storage, or location. This way, users can provide access to such sensitive information only to apps they trust. One specific feature introduced by Google with Android 11 was the ability to automatically reset permissions for apps. Notably, devices running on Android 11 would automatically reset permissions for an app if they haven’t been used for a few months. Samsung also has a similar feature that allows a user to disable unused apps. Thus preventing them from running in the background. Though the automatic permission reset feature was exclusive to Android 11, it will soon be available for all Samsung devices, even though they aren’t running on Android 11. Yes! You heard it right. Samsung will be adding this Android 11 automatic reset permission feature to all its devices via an update. These devices don’t require running Android 11.
Samsung devices running Android 6.0 or above would get this automatic reset permission feature
As per a report by SamMobile, Samsung devices, including smartphones and tablets running Android 6 Marshmallow or above, will be eligible to receive this feature. Moreover, devices having access to Google apps and services will be served with the automatic permission reset feature. This was previously limited to devices running on Android 11 only. This feature will be enabled for any app that supports Android 11. However, for older apps that don’t come with Android 11 support but officially support older versions of Android, you can enable this automatic reset feature on your Samsung device manually. Samsung users can enable this feature for older apps under the Device Settings menu. All in all, for those apps that haven’t been used in a while, the app permissions will be reset automatically. As of now, there is not much information available on how the permissions auto-reset feature will work on Samsung devices. The update, including this feature, isn’t rolling out now. According to the official blog, the feature is set to roll out, starting from December 2021 for devices running Android 6.0 or above. Besides, it is expected to be available for all devices by Q1 of 2022. This is a nice new feature coming to Samsung devices.
